Royal College of Physicians
The Royal College of Physicians offers a range of accreditation services, with the aim of improving the quality, safety and outcomes of healthcare, the patient experience and service delivery. Our Accreditation unit also manages certification and quality assurance processes for trainees and practitioners.
The RCP currently manages four accreditation schemes:
- Joint Advisory Group (JAG) on gastrointestinal endoscopy - which is responsible for agreeing and setting competency standards for endoscopy and quality assuring endoscopy units and training. The JAG Accreditation scheme is a pathway of quality improvement and, once accredited, continued maintenance of JAG standards through an on-line census and periodic inspection. For further information, please visit the JAG website.
- Safe Effective Quality Occupational Health Service (SEQOHS) accreditation scheme - which is responsible for the quality assurance of occupational health services. This accreditation scheme, managed by the RCP on behalf of the Faculty of Occupational Medicine, requires occupational health services to adhere to a set of defined standards. Once accredited, services are monitored annually to ensure continued accreditation. For further information on this scheme, please visit the SEQOHS website.
- Improving Quality in Allergy Services (IQAS) - this is currently a self-assessment registration scheme with accompanying standards, but a full accreditation scheme is being developed, which will be available to all services.
- Improving Quality in Physiological diagnostic Services (IQIPS) - This accreditation framework has been developed, incorporating a self-assessment and improvement tool to improve, promote and recognise good quality practice in physiological diagnostic services across the eight physiology specialties, Audiology, Cardiac physiology, Gastro-Intestinal physiology, Neurophysiology, Ophthalmic science, Respiratory physiology, Urodynamics and Vascular science. Accreditation for IQIPS is delivered by and awarded by UKAS, the UK Accreditation Service.
